  1. Known as "Canada's Department Store". Everything at Eaton's was great - really a class act. The Eaton's stores were the heart of downtown in cities across Canada for 130 years. I sure do miss them, especially at Christmas!

  2. If only I could step back in time and go shopping at Eaton's. I think everything we owned came from that store. They had a way of knowing what the customer would like, and so shopping was easy. Everything they sold was tasteful and sophisticated. Sure miss you Eaton's!

  3. Eaton's an iconic Canadian Institution. Amazing customer service, selection and presence in the community. No Canadian store has ever been comparable. Truly missed.

  4. Yeah Both Eaton's and Simpson's. Both Canadian Icons. Great stores, remember them when I was young. Both were big stores in Halifax, NS with stores in Dartmouth. I remember the Santas in both stores.

    1. The 1901 and 1927 catalogues are reproductions, published in the late 1960s or early 1970s. Unfortunately, the 1927 catalogue reproduction was done in black & white (other than the cover), to save money. The original 1927 catalogue was printed with many pages in full colour.

You could save them and enjoy them, or you could put them up for sale on Ebay. Or, if you have a scanner and a lot of time, you could scan the pages and save the digital images, then sell the catalogues.

  8. I have a question for anyone out there. In 1985 I visited an Eatons museum in the Yorkdale Mall. An older woman was working there at the time and I gave her a copy of a photo I had of a Eatons delivery cart that she said was used on Center Island. She was shocked that I had it because she claimed no pictures of these carts exsit only drawings. What happened to that museum? I still have the original negative if anyone is interested as a photo of 4 salea girls from Eatons. )One of them is my Grandmother at 17 years old who died in 1988 at the age of 104. contact me Gord at

  12. My grandfather worked for Eaton's designing for the Fancy Goods department - needlepoint, cross stitch etc. I am looking for any patterns, table cloths, napkins or other items of this nature which have the Eaton's label.
Eaton's hosted art contests for its employees and from this my grandfather also sold some of his watercolour paintings, mostly of the Toronto area. I am interested in locating any of his paintings signed C.S. Walker or CSW. heatherjanderson@gmail.com

  17. I am in the UK. I have been looking through a box which belonged to my grandmother and found a very old battered catalogue. It is an Eaton's catalogue from the Fall & Winter of 1922-23. I remember my grandmother telling me she spent a few years in Canada around this time so she must have brought it back to the UK with her.

It is fascinating reading it on a cold and snowy afternoon.

  20. I found a roll of LIGHT BROWN strip ( looks like cotton) ribbon with
    Yellow embroidery on it :
EATON'S OF CANADA repeated all along it. I have a pic of it.
Wondering what it was used for. I have quite a bit of it and wonder if it's worth anything.
