How am I able to access information of the list of wedding dress that Levy's sold in the year 1958. My mother purchased her dress @ Levy's in Tucson Arizona back in 1958 and got married 12/06/58. I want to have my future wedding dress exactly like my mothers. is it possible for your store provide the catalog of wedding dress sold in the year 1958? greatly appericated. enclosed is my email oliviaordonez2003@yahoo.com thanks:)
ReplyDeleteIn January 1983, Federated Department Stores dissolved the 2 location Levy's division corporate offices, which were in the El Con store. The other branch was in The Foothills Mall. Plans for a third location in Albuquerque's Coronado Center were put on hold. Rather than placing Levy's under the direction of Bullock's, which already had a presence in the Phoenix market, Dallas based Sanger Harris assumed responsibility. The Levy's name was retained until approximately 1986 when they were re-branded as Sanger Harris. Less than a year later they became Foley's(due to the Sanger Harris/Foley's merger). In 1988, May Department Stores acquired the Foley's division, and The Foothills Mall location was closed. The El Con location ultimately became a Robinsons-May location, and was closed in 2007 by Macy's.

ReplyDeleteLoved each of the quality department stores of Tucson:Levy's, Steinfeld's and Jacome's. Just wandering through them as a teenager back in the mid sixties was a slice of heaven; I can still remember their elegance, and scent.

My Dad Tony Gallo cut hair on the 3rd floor "Beauty Salon".I have good memories of going to see him and of many Levy's employees who would stop by our house on the way home from work for a glass of wine,shot of IW Harper and a beer.We lived on the corner of Mountain and Speedway.1301..This was my grandmothers house which she bought in1926.Her name was Ida DeConcini and my mother was Alice DeConcini.Peter Gallo.

ReplyDeleteMy grandfather Aaron moved the store up from Douglas, Bisbee to Tucson because my grandmother wanted distance from the in laws. My father,uncle and great uncle all worked there. My Grandfather died suddenly at age 53 in 1958 leaving his brother Leon in charge. Leon sold to Federated in 1959-60.... Intresting Tucson tidbit...My grandfather did not favor the Elcon location for a mall , he thought it should be moved further east so as not to kill downtown and without his cooperation they had no deal.But when he died they did Elcon sooo it would have been interesting to see what would have happened in town had he lived...
