In 1938, White & Kirk opened a new store in a south-western Art-Deco style in downtown Amarillo. The company's advertising sketch did not hint at the elaborate detailing of the building. |
A different advertising sketch is even less true to the building but does show the adjacent annex. |
The small, beautiful store became an affiliate of Sakowitz in 1969. |

As a high school art student in Plainview I won two awards in the annual Kodak Photography contest in Amarillo. We were told our entries would be at the prestigious Whit and Kirk store. Big deal for a small town resident.
